General Karachi

KARACHI: Pakistan Medical Association PMA and College of Family Medicine Pakistan CFMP leaders have expressed concern by the public notice and announcement of schedule of the elections of the members of Pakistan Medical & Dental Council PMDC.

Dr. Mirza Ali Azhar, Secretary General PMA Centre, Dr. Aziz Khan Tank Secretary General College of Family Medicine Pakistan in a statement here Friday said according to notice an election of one member each from Punjab, Sindh, KPK, Balochistan, ICT, FATA and AJKGilgit Baltistan amongst the registered medical and dental practitioners with having valid registration is going to be held on 24th April 2013.

They said at a glance, it is very evident that all these barricades have been placed to oust proper candidates in such a short time in favor of kith and kin during scrutiny. They said the amount of security Rs.50,000 is more than the amount being deposited as security money for the election of an assembly. All other requirements which are mandatory to be fulfilled seems like that doctors are not professionals, but probably they are criminals.

They said nowhere in the world the members of the medical fraternity are subjected to this kind of humiliation and disrespect for being elected as the member of Medical & Dental Council. They said it seems that the present high ups in the PMDC are bent upon to bring the people of their own choice and make this big institution which is a regulatory body of Medical and Dental Education in the country, a private company.

They said furthermore there is no clarification of general seats and the status of representation of 172000 general and family physicians.

They requested the President of Pakistan to order an immediate withdrawal of the notice which is lowering the respect and honor of entire medical profession. They also requested Chief Justice of Pakistan to take notice of the issue.
