Commuter dies after falling from minibus roof

KARACHI: A commuter was killed while felling from the rooftops of an overcrowded minibus in Keamari area of the city on Tuesday.

50-years-old, Fiaz Muhammad, son of Muhammad Ali fell down from an overcrowded minibus of route X-8 bearing registration number PE-3407 near Ghayab Shah Shrine Keamari, within the precinct of Jackson police station.

The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for an autopsy.

Police said man was travelling on rooftop of the minibus and he fell down while getting down from vehicle near Ghayab Shah Shrine. He fell down, came under the wheal of minibus and died on spot.

These tragic incidents are routine in Karachi, the largest city of Pakistan, where thousands of commuters travel on the roofs of overcrowded minibuses in very risky manner. Last year the Supreme Court of Pakistan had instructed provincial authorities to remove roof racks of the minibuses but this order also fell on deaf ears.
