Peshawar: Expressing grave concern about the schedule of Lawari tunnel for traffic, residents of district Chitral demanded of the government to keep open the tunnel for passengers for all seven days of the week.
The demands were made during a protest demonstration at Sher Shah Soori road opposite Cantonment Railway Station on Monday.
Holding banners and placards, the protestors were led by Molana Abdur Rahman, president of Jamiat Ulemae Islam JUI district Chitral.
Talking to reporter he said according to new schedule the tunnel would be opened for three days in a week. He said due to closure of the tunnel passengers were facing difficulties.
He added with the new schedule the fares of passengers vehicles have been increased up to 100 per cent. “Before the news schedule a passenger had to pay Rs1000 from Chitral to Peshawar but now the fare has reached to RsRs2000,” he added.
He maintained that Chitrali people were already facing various difficulties while this step of the provincial government created further problems for them.
