Karachi: A petition challenging the additional responsibilities given to secretary general to President Asif Ali Zardari, Salman Farooqui as the acting federal ombudsman was filed in the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry on Monday.
Petitioner Mehmood Akhtar Naqvi submitted that position of federal ombudsman had been lying vacant for two years, while Salman Farooqui who was secretary general to the president had been awarded with additional charge as he would retain the position until a new ombudsman was posted.
He stated that giving additional charge to the secretary general to president was in violation of the Constitution and the law.
He said that President Asif Ali Zardari had brought an amendment in the Ombudsman Act 1983 with the intention that person bearing position of secretary general to president could retain the additional charge.
He prayed to court to pass directions against the additional charges given to Salman Farooqi.
