Pakistan draws world’s attention to threat posed to South Asia’s peace by India’s policies

At the United Nations, Pakistan has drawn the world community’s attention to the threat posed to South Asia’s peace and security by India’s ultra-nationalist and hegemonic policies.

Speaking at the UN General Assembly’s First Committee dealing with disarmament and international security matters, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Munir Akram said India has deployed nine hundred thousand troops to crush the legitimate struggle of Kashmiris for their just right of self-determination.

He said the Indian government seeks to establish an exclusive Hindu state in India by oppressing and marginalizing its 200 million Muslims and other minorities.

Munir Akram said India also threatens Pakistan through deployment of vast majority of its land, sea and air forces against it and the adoption of doctrines envisaging fighting a “limited war under the nuclear overhang” and resorting to “Cold Start” surprise attacks.

He said despite all these Indian provocations, Pakistan is determined to pursue regional peace, development and strategic stability, based on sovereign equality and mutual respect.
