Lawyers boycott court proceedings

Karachi: Court proceedings remained suspended and lawyers stayed away from the courts on Monday as the Sindh Bar Council, Sindh High Court and Karachi Bar Associations observed strike to show solidarity with the families of Quetta massacre victims.

Responding to call of Pakistan Bar Council PBC, Sindh Bar Council had also announced on Sunday that it would boycott court proceeding on Monday across Sindh to express complete solidarity with the victims.

The SHCBA spokesperson, Advocate Qazi Ather, announced on Sunday that the bar associations unanimously decided to observe complete strike to protest over the Quetta incident.

The Sindh High Court and the City Courts wore deserted look as no lawyer appeared in the courts and legal hearings remained suspended.

A general body meeting was convened in Sindh high court bar association in which office-bearers of the members participated. They condemned killings of over 100 people in Quetta on Thursday in twin bomb explosions and killing of 14 soldiers in Waziristan.

They also deplored the apathy of the federal and Balochistan governments in controlling terrorist activities.

The meeting was of the view that deployment of Frontier constabulary by authorities in Quetta will not resolve the issue as it is already present in the Balochistan.

It also extended deep sorrow with the families of victims.
