Asma sees danger to democracy
Karachi: Noted lawyer leader Asma Jahangir has said lawyers will not support any decision which would be against to the rule of law and democracy.
Addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club here Tuesday, ex-president of Supreme Court Bar Association Asma Jahangir said future generations will not forgive us if democracy was derailed. She said it is high time we have to take resist nondemocratic decisions in Pakistan that are danger to democracy.
Asma Jahangir said in case political parties are corrupt democracy cannot be run without political parties. She said they will announce their strategy after reading of written order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the order to arrest Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf and other accused in the rental power plants corruption case.
President Sindh High Court Bar Association Mustafa Lakhani said an ‘all parties’ conference’ was arranged to discuss the long march of Dr Qadri a few days back in Lahore in which the participants including lawyers rejected it.
President Karachi Bar Association Naeem Qureshi said lawyers had taken active part in the movement for independent judiciary for the sake of “justice for everyone”. He said Karachi Bar has given many sacrifices in this regard.
