Iran’s crucial presidential elections begin

Tehran, (IINA) - Iran's 12th round of presidential elections kicked off early on Friday with the incumbent President Hassan Rouhani vying for the top office with three rival contenders.

Gates of some 63,00 polling stations opened at 8 a.m. (local time), with electoral personnel, judges and observers all ready to host the 56 million electorates.

Vote casting is officially scheduled for 10 hours, however, the interior minister can extend the process.

Rouhani is seeking to serve for another four years in the leading post, competing with a major foe, the fundamentalist Ebrahim Raisi, in addition to two other prominent figures.
